Mermaid Decorating Ideas

Mermaid Nursery or Girls Room ideas!

Little girls will love this charming design. Olive Kids Mermaids have beautiful enchanting Mermaids swimming in a fun underwater world. Their turqouise kingdom is filled with colorful sea creatures including seahorses, turtles, crabs, shells and lots of bubbles. All the Mermaids have flowing hair and colorful tops and tales. Its a wonderful world for your little Mermaid!

Little Mermaid Theme: Underwater oasis! Paint the walls different shades of blue and green. Paint fish and waves. Bring in a bubble lamp, bubble machine, fish neons, fish posters/photos. Bring in The Little Mermaid for the kids to watch, books, toys and games from the movie. Buy fishnet to hold nautical plushes.

After choosing the perfect set of ocean crib bedding and window treatments for your ocean theme baby nursery, it will be a snap to decide on the best color to paint the nursery walls for your beach loving baby boy or baby girl's nursery decor. An ocean nursery theme is a great way to bring your baby and the wonders of the ocean together without getting sand in the car!

If you choose the right ocean color scheme and get the right set of ocean theme bedding and accessories you can get the same effect of a day at the beach in your ocean theme bedroom without ever getting sunburned! Each person's idea of what constitutes an ocean decorating theme is different! When you consider all of the different activities and hobbies that involve the sea, it's much easier to understand the reasons for this. Ocean theme decorating to one person is beach theme to another!

You have your: Surfers, Deep sea fisherman, Sailing enthusiasts, Whale, Sea Turtle and Dolphin Watchers, Seahorses, Shell Collectors, Armchair Sailors who Love Tales of the Sea, Scuba Divers, Little Mermaid Nursery Themes and Pirates. Then there are people who love the look of a salt water aquarium and never stick their toes into the water much less surf! To have a great love for the ocean and to appreciate its calming, soothing quality doesn't necessarily mean you have to dive in or live close to a coastline!

Ocean bedding themed accessories are marketed to just such a demographic! Perhaps you were raised by the sea and are now completely landlocked. Oceanscapes and other ocean theme items make wherever you hang your hat feel just like home. There are so many great ocean sealife comforters for kids! A few years ago you wouldn't dream of finding sea turtle bedding sets!

If you know such an unfortunate transplant that spent their childhood visiting the shore, but can't offer the same luxury to their child, ocean pictures of sunny days and children playing on the sand make great ocean theme baby gifts!

Help your friends or decorate your own ocean nursery walls with ocean pictures and ocean stuff like: Starfish, Anchors, Pictures of whales, dolphins, swordfish or the deepwater fish of your liking. Pictures of tall ships or model ships and the list goes on and on! For a contemporary beach theme, paint a mural of the beach and open horizon on the wall. Place a Cape Cod Saltbox just over the dunes with some swimsuits drying and ready to wear on a clothesline. Include some beach toys, a bucket and other baby beach gear left on the sand after a perfect day at the beach. Use some textured paint for a real sandy feel to the walls. Stencils, stickers and decals are as always an excellent shortcut in painting your ocean or baby's underwater theme nursery wall mural.

If you prefer a more natural approach for the room, decorate the walls with pictures of baby sea turtles, baby sea otters and baby sea lions frolicking in the surf. Order sea life baby bedding from a natural wonders store. Gather baby safe seashells and dried starfish to add texture and color to the room.

For a child's underwater nursery theme turn baby's nursery toy chest into a pirate's treasure chest theme rescued from the under the sea and decorate the walls with authentic looking pirate hats. Paint an underwater mural full of tropical fish and other sea creatures on the wall.

Paint a mural of the deep sea complete with fish, seaweed, a ship wrecked pirate's ship, colorful coral and a shark or two with faint rays of sunshine filtering down from the surface.
Use a fishnet as a nursery window treatment. Arrange it so that a few seashells or starfish can be tucked inside.

Mermaid Themed Kitchen or Bathroom Decorated Room ideas!

If you are like me, your kitchen is less than inspiring. I had an epiphany today about what to do with my bland kitchen. It is in the need for an update but like many other people, we have a limited budget. My love for mermaids and all things from the sea has brought me to this. In a perfect world I would love to paint my kitchen into an Underwater Mermaid World.

Mermaid Kitchen Ceiling: I think the ceiling would be cool painted as though I am on the ocean floor looking up to the waters surface above. The sunlight reflecting on the waves. Possibly a surfer going by on his surfboard.

Mermaid Kitchen Backsplash: My tiled backsplash would be sponge painted over with muted greens and blues. I would then go over it with a colored foil treatment to add sparkle and shine.

Mermaid Kitchen Counter: My counter top is a white printed formica (from the 70's). I would probaly paint it to look like a sandy destination, more natural (nothing solid). Now if I wanted to completely change out the counter top I might choose a light stained concrete with bits of sand or river rocks to have a more natural feel.

Mermaid Kitchen Lighting: Now this is the easy part... I envision a white sea shell encrusted chandalier above my dining area. Maybe I would drape foe seaweed from them as well (remember we are in an underwater world). The other lighting can be altered with sea shells and such also. Don't forget about under counter lighting... what about green or blue? Looking for a Mermaid Themed Nightlight or a Lighted Lithopane Shadow Box? These are cool if you are looking for something unique.

Mermaid Kitchen Cabinets: I would probaly paint them in different hues of greens and blues. I think a mermaid or two would look awesome painted on them as well with a few under sea creatures to keep them company. Maybe a few sea turtles could keep them company. Dont' forget about the cabinets hardware... I have seen pewter sea shell knobs and drawer handles. They look like different sea shell types and starfish. Very Cool!

Mermaid Kitchen Wall Art: What mermaid world we be complete without the star of the show... more mermaids! I have seen mermaids sitting in wine glasses and lots of other great mermaid pictures to use for this room. My favorites are by David Delamare and Jade Bengco.

Mermaid Decor: Of course you would want lots of seashells, coral, fishnets, anything beachy. I suggest displaying a starfish or two in your window sill and placing lots of shells in glass bowls to further this natural beach theme.

Happy Decorating!
Emma
